Daily Reports

~ from Captain Bliss
September 20, 2005
With the lake season coming to a close with some of the best salmon season seen in a long time -- this fall is going to be one for the record books.  Here are the catches on our last two trips.

September 25, 2005
The past weekend I had Bill & Bill for 2 days of fun. The fish didn't cooperate the way we wished but we were able to play with a few each day. On Saturday Ray was back along with Joe. We did the night bite thing at the mouth of the Salmon River. The bite wasn't hot but steady. As the sun came up we hit half a dozen trolling.

I had Steve and Ron with me today. Ron flew in from Thailand just a couple days ago. Well he brought good luck with him landing his limit in no time. Steve on the other hand had his chances and finally landed a nice hen. After which he brought out the bananas, I guess the curse works on the drift boat too.

September 28, 2005
Today I fished the lower stretch of the Salmon River with Claudio and crew. We landed double digits and played with many, many more. Ryan finally got his first King. Just a few pics today, was too tired from chasing Kings up and down river all morning.

September 29 & 30, 2005
Sorry for a lack of reports the last two days. Thursday it rained so badly I didn't even take out the camera. Fishing was so-so in the lower stretch to start so we took a break to dry out and warm up. We checked the creeks it was a good move. Friday I worked with Tom on the ColdSteel. Fishing wasn't great but we managed a few.

October 1, 2005
Bill is back and this time he brought the family. It was a great day on the lower Salmon River. We hooked well over a hundred fish today. Mostly kings with a 13lbs. Steelhead, 2 Browns, and a few Cohos. Everybody had a good time and sore legs for chasing fish down river all morning in the higher flows.

October 2, 2005
Bill and Kitsi joined me today for a road trip. We fished hard and were rewarded for our efforts. We fought many kings and even hooked two steelhead. Both were released to fight another day. One after a quick pic and the other long line style. All fish were caught pulling plugs, my favorite! There's no better sight than a big king thrashing a backtrolled plug.

October 6, 2005
Gary, Dominick and Dominick Jr. joined me on a beautiful day floating the Salmon River. We fished the upper stretch, hooking and SEEING fish in every spot we stopped. We landed some nice Kings and a nice Coho.

October 7, 2005
John and Ron joined me for a float trip on the Salmon River today. The conditions were tough but we managed to hook a bunch. But landed few. With the wind and rain I Didn't take the camera out much.

October 8, 2005
David and his daughter Lauren joined me on the SR today. The original plan was to float the DSR. With the high water they closed today, forcing us to plan B. Floating the upper stretch of the river. With the cooler temps and high water we only fished a half-day before Lauren had enough. We did manage to land many Salmon before we left.

October 11, 2005
Gary and Gary joined me today for their first Lake Ontario Salmon. Gary even landed the first Channel Catfish onboard my boat, I knew it was only a matter of time. The fishing was steady today. We were in the double digits today, only keeping hens so we have bait. They're out again tomorrow but it will be C&R.

October 12, 2005

Morning

Gary and Gary were back for one more day before they head back Ohio. Would today be as good as yesterday? Would we have our spot again? Yes, well we had the spot and the fishing was better! Another double-digit day. With all fish released!

Afternoon
Tom and Gail joined me for short afternoon trip. With the wind and the rain the goal was to catch Gail her first Salmon. Goal completed! We land three and lost as many others.

October 13, 2005

Perry, Craig, Mike and Pete joined fellow guide John and I for a drift on the Salmon River. We landed MANY salmon. Mostly Kings with two Cohos mixed in. Everyone fought at least a dozen fish. The rain was no stop, that's why there were no streamside pics.

October 14, 2005

Marty and Carl joined me today on the Oswego today. We pulled plugs all day with good success. We managed to land five out of 14 and 1 for 2 on sheephead. Carl wouldn't let me take a pic of the sheephead. The Fishing is RED HOT!!! With some openings in the next few weeks and a few afternoons open, you owe it to yourselves to get up here SOON!!! This is not just another guide trying to book trips. THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS!!!

October 18, 2005

Bill and Bill joined me for an afternoon trip on the Mighty Oswego and it was worth it! We started off casting eggs with a few short strikes. One cast with a plug, one large salmon. Two casts, two large salmon. You can figure out the rest. The only problem was they didn't come to net as easily as the first two.

October 20, 2005

Morning

Ted and Carl joined me to day from Conn. Ted has been fishing with me for years, for Carl it was his first trip. You wouldn't have guessed it. Carl landed 3 and Ted "Mr. Ofor" was O for 16. He has won the award for most fish lost in a single day. Sorry Ted, hopefully your Dad will do better tomorrow.

Afternoon
Joe and Jack were with me this afternoon. Of course all they could talk about was Ted, after starting 1for 7 they didn't find it to funny. Luckily they stayed on for us a little better. We ended up one short of a limit.

October 21, 2005

Morning

Ted Sr. and Lee joined me for a day of plugging. We started at the dam under a dense blanket of fog. All this did was keep the Salmon from seeing all the guys lined to catch them. The bite was very good for the first hour with a steady pick for the rest of the trip. Yes Senior made up for Ted's mistakes catching his limit in no time.

Afternoon
After hearing all of the stories of the last two days Jason and Ken only knew one thing they each had to land one so they could pick on Ted for the next 12 months. Mission accomplished. Ken had his limit in 45mins Jason on the other hand we had to wait a good 2 hours. It was all right since we were the only drift boat on the river this afternoon. I even got to land one today. When I lock them up they don't get away.

October 22, 2005

When I awoke at 5am and saw that the water on the Oswego had been shut off it was time to go on a road trip. I met Steve and Dave, gave them the options and we decided to try the Black river. What a good choice. We had Steve's first ever salmon in under 5 mins. and they kept biting from there. We ended the day near double-digits. With all fish being caught on plugs.

October 23, 2005

They brought the water back up on the Oswego late yesterday, and the Salmon came calling. With the rise in water it seems some fresh salmon moved up into the river. So I took Tom and Joe to the Dam to pull some plugs. It started very overcast which spoiled the hot morning bite. But they did bite good. We managed just under twenty strikes today. But only landed 25% of those bites. It just wasn't Joe's day.

October 25, 2005

Yoon and Kim joined me today for a rain soaked trip. We started the day with a double. It was fast and furious for the first hour. Then it settled into a steady bite. With the heavy rain we decided to call it an early day.

October 28, 2005

Brad, Ben, and Chip joined me for their annual Steelhead trip on the Salmon River. The weather cooperated and so did the Chrome. We fished a mixture of flies and eggs Brad landed our biggest Steelhead of the season so far a 14lbs. buck. Brad took a little time to warm up, it took a couple of hours for his first Steelhead, 2 cast for his second and then 1 cast for his last. Sorry Chip, I just can't believe you let Brad steal that last fish. All fish were released.

October 29, 2005

Stewart and his father Sobo joined me today for a nice day on the Oswego. We fished eggs and the salmon were hungry. We ended up in double digits. We fished hard and were rewarded.

October 31, 2005

George and Danny joined me for an afternoon trip on the Oswego. We started off casting plugs and doing very well until they decided to turn on another turbine. So we motored up to the dam and crushed them. Lots of good looking salmon left around. We even landed a nice Steelhead.
